A native of Mexico City, Jose Terán has established a relationship with filmmaking and advertising since the beginning of his career. He started out working for agencies such as TBWA and Energy BBDO Chicago. In 2009 he graduated from the Virginia Commonwealth University’s Brandcenter with a Masters in Mass Communication emphasizing in Creative Writing as well as attending several Creative Writing courses in London’s Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. He then began his career as a writer, director and producer.
He has written scripts for several content and entertainment projects, produced over 40 commercials, and written, produced and directed two short films (“Renacimiento” and the awarded “72 Horas”). As an advertising director he has worked for clients such as Apple, AT&T, Adidas, Nestlé, AT&T, BBVA Bancomer, Nissan, Palacio de Hierro, Cinemex, Yoplait, GNP, Pepsico, Saba, amongst others.
Both his academic formation and the time he spent as CEO of Garage Films Mexico (an international Production Company) from 2011 to 2015 have given him a broad international view of the film and advertising industries. It was during this period that he began directing and since then, Jose has established himself as a director with a profound sense and knowledge of the storytelling process and a refined visual style.
He has been represented in Mexico by Garage Films, Leyenda, Postal, Lovster, and Voces Imaginarias and Rhayuela in Colombia, Wonder and Lobo Kane in Spain. He currently lives un Mexico City while he spends his time directing commercials both in Mexico and broad and prepping his first feature “Todo Nada”, adapted from the Mexican novel of the same name by Brenda Lozano.
